The reason I went to the great Pacific Northwest last week was to attend Prudential University. Here are a few of my co-workers who attended with me. You can go to flickr and take a look at all of the photos. On the left of the photo is John Barba, when we first started at Pru seven years ago people got us confused with each other. Do you think I was ever that good looking?
I think Bill (standing in the middle) looks like Dave Ralston – do you agree. Mike. Mike and Linda just look like themselves.

Spencer’s Butte
Saturday, October 22nd, 2005My trip to Oregon has been too short but a lot of fun. You can see all the photos on my flickr account.
today was a rather active day for me. First I got up earlier that T & R and took a 3 mile run followed by a 35 minute walk (while talking to Wade) followed by a 2 mile walk with travis to the bookstore, followed by a walk around saturday market (see photos on flickr) followed by our 3 mile walk up the Butte and back. My legs feel like jello.

BUSH HAIKU
Saturday, October 15th, 2005My friend Chris sent me this by email – i hope you enjoy:
This is a poem made up entirely of actual quotations from George W. Bush, arranged for “aesthetic” by Washington Post writer Richard Thompson.
MAKE THE PIE HIGHER!
I think we all agree, the past is over. This is still a dangerous world. It’s a world of madmen and uncertainty And potential mental losses. Rarely is the question asked Is our children learning? Will the highways of the Internet Become more few? How many hands have I shaked? They misunderestimate me. I am a pit bull on the pant leg of opportunity.
I know that the human being And the fish can coexist. Families is where our nation finds hope, Where our wings take dream. Put food on your family! Knock down the tollbooth! Vulcanize society! Make the pie higher! Make the pie higher!
Did you think it would be alive?

VICTORY!
Monday, October 3rd, 2005The seasons over and once again for the 18th time in 23 seasons I have won. My margin of victory was only 2 points – the smallest margin of victory ever. I had a total of 725 points and Jerry had 723. By comparision, in 1995 when I won by 18 points I only scored a total 658. In 1993 I won by 37 points with a total of 726. Unfortunately we are not very good record keepers and I don’t know the final scores on any other seasons. One of the many traditions of the annual baseball bet is the “loser’s Trophy” It is suppose to be a traveling trophy that the previous years loser keeps in their office. Technically I should be sending the trophy to Jerry today. However, Jerry was so confident after his victory last year that there was no way he could win two years in a row that he didn’t send it to me. So Jerry enjoy it for another very years. The best tradition of the bet is the “Payoff Dinner.” Any ideas as to where Jerry should take us in Santa Fe next April?
A SPECIAL THANKS TO TRAVIS FOR PUTTING TOGETHER OUR WEBSITE TO TRACK THE BET.
Magic Number at 3!
Sunday, October 2nd, 2005My magic number is 3. That means I can win the bet today, the last of the season if my teams “do the right thing” in 3 of the 8 games they play or if Jerry’s teams do the right thing in 3 of their games. Of course the Yankee – Red Sox game and the Royals – Blue Jays games don’t matter because Jerry is guaranteed a point in each of them. What would it take for Jerry to win you ask? The most points he can pick up today is 6, he would need to gain at least 5 because I’m leading by 4 and I would have to have all of my 8 possible points denied.
There are a couple of very important games being played today. The Brewers, one of Jerry’s losers and the Pirates, one of mine are playing each other. We also have a game with a set of our winners opposing each other, the Braves vs. the Marlins. Those 2 games could be enough for me to win because they are both worth double. If the Braves beat the Marlins I get a point and Jerry doesn’t. Same with the Pirates and the Brewers.
So the moral of this post – root for the Brewers and the Braves – it could be enough to do it for me!
