What a great vacation

Yes, we are back from Eugene. June and I agree it was the best vacation we ever had! We stayed very busy, we went to the coast and stuck our feet in a very cold portion of the Pacific Ocean, spent an afternoon at the “Eugene Days Celebration”, shopped in Portland, shopped in Eugene, went to one of Travis and Rachel’s softball games, went to one of Travis’ flag football games and ate at many of Travis and Rachel’s favorite hang outs. The best part of the vacation was spending time with Travis and Rachel. They are so happy and really enjoy their life.
We met many of Travis’ coworkers and we loved hearing how much they appreciate Travis. Travis and Rachel have only been in Eugene for a year and they already have some very good friends.
Travis and Rachel’s new house is so “cute.” It was built in the mid 1920’s and is overflowing with charm. It is obvious that Rachel has learned a lot from all the Martha Stewart magazines she reads, their house could/should be a cover story. One of the very cool things we liked about the house is the fact that you can walk to Downtown Eugene and many of the fabulous attractions of the town within just a few minutes.
We loved watching Travis be the star of his sports. I will admit it was a little odd for me not being the coach, but other than that it was great. His flag football game was so much fun. We were a little nervous when we got there because the other team had uniforms and were running drills and one of their players is a former Denver Bronco (my favorite team) and had about 7 extra players, including 2 girls. Travis’ team didn’t have uniforms and only had one extra player and he had a broken toe, most of the players hadn’t met each other before and they didn’t have any plays. The other team started with the ball and my question from the sidelines was “Does anyone doubt that they will score on the first possession?” Well, on the first play Travis “sacked” the quarterback, on the second play he hurried a pass that was incomplete, on the third play he “sacked” the QB again and on the forth play they punted to our speedster who ran the ball back to about the 10 yard line. On our team’s first play, Travis was the center and all players are eligible so he both hiked the ball and caught the pass and ran it in for a touchdown. From there on it became a defensive battle and that was the only score of the game. Travis did lead the team and game with about 6 or 8 receptions and about 6 or 8 “sacks”. At one point one of the fans were shouting “MVP” to honor Travis. The only reason they didn’t give Travis the game ball is that they only have one ball and they might have a practice sometime.
The trip home was long. We were delayed in Denver for a couple of hours and didn’t get to bed until about 2 AM. June had to get up early Friday to go to work; she was very tired when she got home last night.

“Really to succeed, we must give; of our souls to the soulless, of our love to the lonelly, of our intelligence to the dull.  Business is quite as much a process of giving as it is of getting.”

Quote of the Day Selptember 10

“In Germany they first came for the communists and i didn’t speak up because I was not a communist.   Then they came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak up because dI wasn’t a Jew.  Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist.  Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn’t speak up because I was a Protestant.  Then they came for me and by that time no one was left to speak up.”
