Congratulations to Jerry Smith, Esq.

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

The 24th season for the Betting Baseball Gourmets and Jerry has emerged victorious. Jerry was able to score 24 more points than I did. We aren’t the best record keepers so we’re not sure how many season each of us have won. Our best guess is that I’ve won around 18 or 19 compared to Jerry’s 5 or 6 victories. However, it should be noted that the only victory that matters is the most recent one.

Some time Jerry and Susan and June and I will meet up in some neutral city somewhere in the US and I will be paying for a somewhat expensive dinner. The first five years of the bet the loser was required to fix a complete gourmet dinner for the four of us, fortunately, I won four of the first five years. we than changed the rules to the loser having to buy an expensive dinner for the four of us until just recently when we added the element of taking a trip to a new city for the dinner. Earlier this year we went to Santa Fe where Jerry was on the hook for 2 meals (sometimes we get behind) and the before that we dinned in New Orleans at my expense. We’ve been talking about SC next year and Cooperstown the year after. I’ll keep you posted on our final plans.

Am I getting better?

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

One of June’s pet peeves (and it’s a legitimate) concerns me failing to unroll the sleeves of my shirts before I put them in the laundry basket. Today she did 2 loads of laundry that had shirts. the first load was the blues and out of 5 shirts 2 still had their sleeves rolled up. The second load had only one shirt with the sleeves still unrolled. I think I didn’t twice as good with the second load because I went from 2 shirts to to one. June position is that since the second load only had 1 shirt i went from 40% noncompliance to 100% noncompliance and that I’m getting worse. What do you think?

The Bet – This news is bad news.

I’m not sure who to attribute the quote “Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn sometimes”, but they sure hit the nail on the head when it comes to explaining how Jerry won the bet this year! AS of this morning he’s ahead by 31 points, I might not be mathematically eliminated, nevertheless, we are just waiting for the fat lady to sing. I think she’s warming up, and she’s standing next to Jerry in the winner’s circle. It won’t be official until next sunday afternoon, however, let me be the first to congratulate Jerry on his well deserved victory. I guess this is the point I should say “Wait until next year!” and “Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn sometimes”

The Essential 100 Update

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

I really enjoyed putting together my “Essential 100″, now i’m working on a disc of the “Essential Live 100.” I think I’ll use the same rules as before, no more than 2 songs from any one artist and no more than 10 artists that have 2 songs.

I know that a few other people are working on their own “Essential 100.” I think Shane, June, Jan and Ann are all attempting to put together their lists. June, however, has created her own rules. She’s decided that she can have one Jackson Browne song from each of his CDs (no bootlegs). We happen to have 2 different Jackson Browne Greatest Hits CDs, one from the US and one from Japan. She is using songs from both of those in her list. Obviously, she can create any rules she wants for her list, it just seems to me that she isn’t making herself make the really hard choices by creating such a large loophole that allows her to pick 12 Jackson Browne songs.

What do you think of her change to my rules?
