We had lunch with Paul and Libby today near our planned location. Paul took this photo for us.

Friday, June 26th, 2009Here’s a closer look of the evidence.

Crime Wave in OP, along with a Heat Wave.
Friday, June 26th, 2009Today I left the house very early for my morning walk because of the heat wave. At 6:00 AM when I left home it was already 76 degrees, the overnight low was 75. I normally take a brisk walk to Antioch and back, about a 4 mile round trip. The walking path is beautiful and lined with interesting trees and bushes. This morning, when I was about 1/2 mile from where the trail empties into the park at Antioch I noticed the trail was lined with candy and sports drinks (see photo). Now I’m no Columbo, or Nero Wolfe, or even a James Rockford, what I’m trying to convey is that I’m a franchise salesman, not a detective or even a PI (sorry Magnum.) Despite this limitation I came to the conclusion that someone had broken into the snack bar at the park and made off with a collection of sugar-based snacks without paying.
When I got to the park there was a grounds-person working on the baseball field who upon hearing about findings and my suspicion said, “I won’t be the first time.” Sure enough we walked over to the snack bar together and the door was slightly ajar which the grounds-person noticed immediately and a broken oversized glass jar lay in pieces outside the door. I walked around to the front of the snack-bar and saw that the window were orders are placed and items received was wide open. I don’t have confirmation of this, but I’m assuming that was the point of entry. I then continued on my walk. Within a a couple of minutes I heard the approaching police sirens. Here’s my question, do you think I should have stayed around to talk to the police?

What’s happening to my blog?
Wednesday, June 24th, 2009I sure can’t figure it out, comments from old posts showing up in current posts? Plus I’m getting over 100 spam comments at a time? I don’t know if I should be flattered or frustrated? what do you think?
by the way, I’m up by 2 points, it’s been a crazy couple of weeks for the bet, Mr. Baseball had what i thought was a commanding lead just 10 days ago, it looks like it will be an interesting season, for Mr. Baseball and myself.

Mystery Dinner
Saturday, June 20th, 2009We went over to the Flinn’s for dinner last night with Dave and Jan, here is photo. And here’s the long story regarding our trip. a couple of months ago dave was worrying about me, being out of work and all and decided to do something to cheer me up, so he called and set up a friday night dinner. when they picked us up he told us it was a “mystery dinner” and he wasnt’ telling us were we were going, but he gave us a hint, the restaurant was rated as one of the ten best in it’s category and the category had 1500 restaurants in it. After a long drive and a lot of bad guesses we arrived at the Paloa Airport to eat at “We Be Smokin, BBQ” we had a great night and we started a new tradition. L
ast night was June’s turn to be in charge of the “mystery” all she told us after we picked up the Magees was that it was a small location and very exclusive and hard to get into. she also said it was famous for the Lasagna, well after a lot of wrong guesses we arrived at the Flinns, and June had prepared her famous Lasagna with all the fixens, I’d figured out was was going on before we left home because she was busy making dinner and all, but we had a good time. Chuck says his cancer isn’t really bothering him with pain, he seems to have a good attitude. One of the stories they told us was that they met on a blind date, Chuck says Edie was “blind.”
Bet Update
Thursday, June 11th, 2009OK, I haven’t posted for a while, i think i’ve been busy. I just finished reading the draft of the lease for my new business, and am i scared? – yes. In my panic i decided to have some fun and post about the bet.
two days ago as i was listening to the royals lose a game they should have won and fall into last place, i decided i’d post with the title “The Royals Are In Last Place and so am I.” when i check the score yesterday, i found out I was up by 3 points, much to my surprise. Today, Mr. baseball and I are tied. I think we have had more lead changes this season already than we have had in any other year. At this point either of us could win, although neither of us deserves to win. Both of us made some pretty bad picks this year. somehow i’d think we’d get better at this, having held the bet for 25 years.
In case you are wondering, I looking at a site at Quivira 95 Shops. I have a real knot in my stomach as i think about what i’m committing to. Or, it could just be that with June gone this week, I drank the whole pot of coffee this morning?
I’ve heard that people are locked out from comments on my blog?
