Bailey

Scott and I got the sweetest little Boston Terrier this past weekend named Bailey. We love her! She is a rescued dog that has been in a HORRIBLE puppy mill for the last 6 years. Bailey is on a special diet to get her back to her normal weight.

Riley has been over for the past week. Bailey and Riley have been getting along great. I think Bailey (and I) will be sad when he goes home. One of Riley’s favorite part about Bailey being here is that he gets to lick her bowl clean when she is done eating!

(Scott and I tried to take Bailey on a walk but she would not walk with us.  I don’t think she’s been on a walk before.  We’ll try again when it’s warmer out.)

How Thoughtful!

flowers

flower pot

Kristen sent Scott and I these beautiful flowers today. That was so sweet and thoughtful. I also love the pot they came in. When the flowers are gone I am going to put the acorns that Papa picked up in the pot. (About 2 months ago Papa spent an hour picking up acorns for my mom. He knew she would enjoy them and be able to use them in some way. She found a nice arrangement to put some of them in. She was not sure what she was going to do with the rest, but she knew she would do something with them. Mom shared them with the family at Papa’s burial. We all have a few which is special. Papa had picked each one up with his hands. Now when I see acorns they will not only remind me of Abby but also of Papa.) After school today Dad, Scott and I met Mom, Grammy and Nicole for dinner at Grammy’s. I was so glad I got to go tonight. Going back to school was fine but to see family afterwards feels so good and comforting. I know we will all continue to be there for each other through visits, phone calls and prayers.

I don’t know what to title this…Perfect Papa, We love you Papa, Family is the best, What would I do without family?…

papa2

Papa’s service on Sunday was beautiful. All four of his children shared something and did a wonderful job. On Eagles Wings was sung during the service. When the verse “And he will raise you up on eagles’ wings, bear you on the breath of dawn, make you to shine like the sun, and hold you in the palm of his hand.” was sung the sun came out and brightened up the room. After the funeral we ate at Papa and Grammy’s church. The cousins then had “Cousins Night to Howl.” We played games and had a great time. I think Papa would be happy to know we are carrying on his, Grammy, Auntie Vi’s and Uncle Fred’s tradition to call our game night that. Today we went to the burial sight and had another touching service. After that all 25 of us went out to eat. This has been an incredible sad weekend for everyone. It has been so nice to be with family during this time. I wish we were getting together again tomorrow. I feel very blessed to be part of this family.

Five hundred people showed their respect to Papa and supported Grammy this weekend. I know there were many other people who could not come because of distance. To have that many people come really says something about the person Papa was and the couple Papa and Grammy are.

Papa

I love my Papa and never imagined this is what we would be doing this weekend. Papa was an amazing person and wonderful Grandpa. He was so loving, generous and caring. He was always helping others and putting a smile on someone’s face and heart. He is a perfect example for us all. It was touching to see all of the people at the visitation today. The line of loved ones was 90 minutes long and continuous for about 4 hours. Being with family and friends is how we will all get through this. I believe Papa will be watching over all of us and there at every event we are at. I have so many special memories of Papa that I will cherish. I will share some later.
